\u00a0Metal braces<\/strong><\/h4>\n
Metal braces consist of small metal brackets that fit onto each tooth separately and are held together with special orthodontic wire. The way in which the wire is attached to each individual brace distinguishes them between traditional and self-ligating. In traditional braces, elastic ties hold the wire onto the metal brackets, whereas in self-ligating braces the wire is attached directly onto the bracket not with the use of an elastic tie but through a simple clipping mechanism. This renders their functionality more dynamic since, according to manufacturers, it reduces friction between the brackets and the wire, thus accelerating teeth movement and realignment. Whether they are really<\/em> superior to the conventional fixed braces, the jury is still out. More research is required regarding this matter.
